Please read the information below about how our services are provided.

For conditions affecting muscles, joints, bones or spine, some people can get benefit from having access to the correct information as a way of facilitating self management. Please consider using the information, advice and exercises contained within this website, and other linked internet sites if you feel your condition could be managed in this way. ​If you are referred or self refer to physiotherapy, your first appointment offered may be by telephone, video or face-to-face depending on the nature of your complaint. Should you require a face to face assessment or appointment at any part of your journey this will be offered.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY PROBLEM GETS WORSE WHILE I AM WAITING FOR MY APPOINTMENT

If you feel your problem is worsening and you have concerns about your problem then you should contact your GP or NHS 24 (Phone 111).

You should do this urgently if you have back pain and have recently, or suddenly, developed the symptoms listed below.  Please also see the link for when you should seek urgent help for your back pain.

  • Difficulty passing urine or controlling bladder/bowels
  • Numbness or tingling around your back passage or genitals
  • Numbness, pins and needles or weakness in both legs

ATTENDING APPOINTMENTS

Please do not attend the department if you are feeling unwell or are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, a telephone appointment may be available as an alternative on request. If you are asked to attend an appointment please note that all NHS clinics are still adhering to infection control procedures which include mask wearing. You will be provided with a face mask as you enter for your appointment. Please do not turn up to the department earlier than your appointment time if possible. Please arrive appropriately dressed for your appointment. Please be patient and respectful to staff at all times.

HOW TO REFER

If you are aged 16 years and over, and registered with a GP in NHS Grampian, you can refer yourself to physiotherapy. Please click on the icon below this paragraph to access the form. These forms may also be available on your GP practice website. Please see our self help pages for plenty useful advice and information for managing a number of conditions. Referral to physiotherapy can also be made by your First Contact Practitioner, GP or Consultant where appropriate. FIRST CONTACT PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

First Contact Physiotherapist's (FCP's) are experts in the assessment and management of Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. Based within GP practices, a typical FCP appointment involves assessment, diagnosis and first-line treatment. FCPs can also refer patients for a course of physiotherapy treatment, request investigations or make referrals into secondary care services. Some FCPs are also able to provide injection therapy, prescrictions, fit notes and organise for blood tests.
